January 12, 2020 – The Committee of the Whole meeting will be presented in 2 parts. As we head into planning for the 2020-2021 program year, Patty will facilitate a discussion about our shared ministries within the congregation and out in the community. The conversation will be focused on two questions: “What promises do we make with each other?” We will explore the mechanisms for keeping those promises.
“What promises do we make to the community?” Currently, our work involves community partnerships with NO NAACP, Apoyo, OCIM, and OC Justice United. There will be a discussion about adding a fifth partnership.
For the next LRC (next Wed, 1/15) the topic will be “Tribalism 101” – below is description. Linda Hall, Roger and Nancy Callanan facilitating.
People on the left and right may disagree on many things, but they generally agree that prejudicial treatment or animosity based upon group differences is bad for our politics and our country. Although most people want communities where all people have dignity and respect, respectful interactions are often not what we see modeled in the media and in politics. How do we build strong, more unified communities in a divisive time?
January 16, 2020: Faith Journeys New Program: Science vs. Religion? The God controversy is over. Michael Dowd explains the new synthesis of reality. It’s called CREATHISM. We can all follow this option as Faith Journeys launches into its new course of study. Open to all at 7:00 PM Thursday, January 16 and Thursday, February 6 at UUCH. January 18, 2020 – DRUMM (Diverse & Revolutionary Unitarian Universalist Multicultural Ministries) is hosting a dinner and facilitated meeting in Raleigh for UU people of color to discuss some of the historical development of UU People of Color and anti-racism efforts, and learn more about what the community needs and interests are among those who attend. UUCH Game night January 25 at 6:00 pm. Please bring snack and/or drink and a game to share.
Share The Plate for January is Food For All. Food For All connects hungry people with a free meal Monday through Thursday. We prepare and distribute approximately 50 meals for hungry people. We are responsible for the 5th Monday. This year our average expenditure per month was 100 dollars. There are 4 – 5th Monday’s in 2020.
The UUCH Children and Youth are making Blessing Bags for the Orange County homeless population. Our goal is to create 75 bags. For this Sunday, we are asking for one gallon Ziplock bags (we need 15-20), bottled water (8 ounces), and energy/granola bars. Every week or so we will make a specific request as we collect items to assemble into the bags. A box will be placed in the entryway at Church. Questions? From Buildings and Grounds: B&G will re-install our church sign that was recently run over. The Membership will also be asked whether they would like to replace the old sign with a much-enhanced, new sign or signs, maybe one on NC10 and one on Lawrence. Your input is welcome!
