Dear Members and Friends of UUCH
We continue to weather the COVID-19 pandemic, and have now established a series of online events (see link below) featuring a live stream of the sermon, plus some additional good things.
Regarding guidance on the pandemic, we continue to monitor the Unitarian Universalist Association, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, as well as local authorities such as the Orange County Schools.
Sunday worship service – March 22:
This coming Sunday’s service will be a live-streamed event from our Facebook page, so please tune in to watch and hear Rev. Patty deliver a message about the wisdom to be gained from uncertain times. Response from our first virtual delivery of the service last week was very positive, with over 250 views of the live stream. We will have a fun, interactive singing portion where we all can join in song! Here are the lyrics:
Kindred, We Now Meet to Worship:
An opening hymn for online worship during this pandemic by Thommy Snell—Music Director at UU Church of Rochester NY (sung to the hymn tune “Holy Manna”)
Kindred, we now meet to worship,
Reaching out through screen and phone.
Though we dwell in isolation
We don’t have to be alone.
Worshiping beyond our building,
Our connection’s no less real.
Though we cannot meet in person,
Covenant unites us still.
Siblings, share a song of gladness
Lifting spirits, spreading cheer,
So that in these days of sadness
We won’t be consumed by fear.
In this time of mass confusion,
Sickness, loss, and overwhelm,
Let’s encourage one another
Hands not joined, but hearts are held.
Friends, be gentle with each other,
There’s so much we’re going through.
May this be a time for healing,
Holding space for grieving too.
Bodies, minds, and hearts are weary,
Anguish fills the aching soul,
But we know with perseverance
Broken hearts can be made whole.
Regarding Facebook live stream access: This does require a Facebook account. If you do not have one, don’t worry, we will be recording and posting the event on our Listen to our Sunday Sermons page.
Coming of Age youth and mentors are asked to be patient as the CoA team is gathering input to determine whether we will continue with a modified, virtual delivery of the sessions. More news on that is coming next week.
If you haven’t seen it yet, please have a look at Rev. Patty’s recent mid-week message regarding Ministry Circles and how we can all stay connected during this time.
Our Annual Pledge Campaign:
Given the difficult time we are all facing, the GovCo has decided to postpone our annual pledge campaign until May 1st. The GovCo is planning on calling everyone, as planned, to cover any concerns or wishes regarding the coming fiscal year. More about the plan is covered on the related webpage.
The coming weeks:
Your support and understanding is greatly appreciated as we navigate this situation. Your / our health and well-being are of primary concern, and we want to reiterate the recommended key actions from the CDC that will help limit the spread of COVID-19:
- Frequently wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not readily available use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
- Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or use the inside of your elbow.
Avoid touching your face, mouth, and nose.
Avoid close contact with anyone who is sick.
Put about six feet of distance between yourself and other people, if you need to be out.
- Stay home! The best way to minimize the overloads at hospitals and clinics is to stay at home and avoid physical contact with others.
